Where did the summer go?? We just finished off ultimate last night and even though we won our first game, we lost our second game to place 6th in Div A which isn’t too bad. Corporate challenge is gearing up the next few weekends, and my company ultimate team is defending champs so lots of pressure!
We received notice that we had to move out by October 1, 2013 and the rental market was TIGHT!! We looked at 8 or so places that were ranging from $1,600 – $1,800 with most of the places lacking their parking due to the flood. Fortunately, we were able to secure a similar unit in our building at (ONLY) a 22% rent increase. Better than nothing I suppose, but I’ll definitely be keeping a close eye on both the real estate market as well as mortgage rates. I think the biggest thing for us right now is figuring out where we want to settle down for a couple of years.
Anyways, down to business. The following is my combined expected and actual household expenses for the month of August.
- Groceries were definitely interesting this month; with the focus of eating what’s in the pantry and the freezer… who am I kidding? The boy was out of town a lot for work in August so that definitely helped with groceries. Unfortunately, our dining out tab was still pretty bad!
- I (FINALLY) received my credits for selling out my siblings’ souls to Rogers for the next 3 years. To be fair, I was twisting their rubber arms; if only my phone bill could be like that every month! The contract should be coming up pretty soon so I will probably find a cheaper alternative to my current plan as I don’t use my plan enough for it to be worth the price tag. Unfortunately, with the news that Verizon isn’t coming up to Canada means we’re stuck with our sucky 3 for the time being. Boo!
- If we remove the work expense component, we were pretty close to be on target for the month.
This is the expected September spending plan. As always, these numbers are fluid, and I fully expect them to change as the year goes on.
The rent looks weird for the month as we have to take possession on September 16 so we will be paying rent on 2 places unfortunately. We also have $50 a month limit on electricity that is included in our monthly rent in the new place, so I will have to see if I will have to start budgeting for utilities again.
